Introduction
I currently work full-time at an award-winning tuition centre, where I teach Mathematics from Grade 4–12. My role involves planning and delivering lessons, creating worksheets and learning resources, assessing students, monitoring their progress and providing feedback to both students and parents. I regularly track the progress of around 30 students, identify gaps in their understanding and adapt my teaching to give each learner the support they need.
Over time, I have developed my own three-level worksheet method, which takes students from understanding a concept, to applying it independently, and finally to tackling more challenging problems. This reflects my overall approach to teaching: I don’t want students to simply memorise a formula or follow a set of steps without understanding them. I focus heavily on the “why” behind what we are doing and use different explanations, visual demonstrations, examples and problem-solving approaches until a concept genuinely makes sense to the learner.
I am patient, approachable and encouraging, and I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I believe that mistakes are an important part of learning, and I work to build both a student’s knowledge and their confidence. My aim is always to help learners become more independent so that they can eventually approach unfamiliar problems without feeling overwhelmed.
In addition to my teaching experience, I have experience working as an Executive Personal Assistant to a Founder and CEO. In this role, I managed correspondence, coordinated meetings and tasks, followed up on outstanding actions, communicated with customers, staff and service providers, and handled confidential information. This experience strengthened my organisation, communication, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple responsibilities at once — skills that I also bring into my tutoring.
My own academic background is strongly focused on Mathematics. I achieved an 82% matric average with five distinctions, including 84% for Mathematics. I then studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Cape Town, completing university-level coursework in Mathematics and Statistics. This has given me a strong mathematical foundation that I bring into my tutoring.
I am also comfortable using Microsoft Office and Excel for data analysis, maintaining records and tracking progress. I enjoy working with people and particularly value creating an environment where students feel heard, supported and comfortable asking questions.
Ultimately, whether I am supporting a student academically or supporting someone professionally, I enjoy being the person who brings structure, organisation and calm to a busy environment\. I am passionate about helping people reach their goals, which is why I enjoy tutoring and why I am also looking to grow my career as a Personal Assistant\. I would love the opportunity to bring my combination of teaching, organisation, communication and administrative experience into a role where I can make a meaningful contribution while continuing to learn and develop.
